About

Lawrence A. Smith is a retired military veteran; retired from the Department of the Interior and the State of Pennsylvania.  He graduated from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business.  Lawrence developed a keen interest in photography while in college and honed his skills by taking an interest in nature and urban photography.  While serving overseas on various assignments, his photography took on more human interest capturing images during humanitarian and disaster relief efforts.  Working for the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency and the U.S. Department of the Interior, his body of work expanded to include working with satellite imagery, disasters, emergencies and public safety.

Finally retiring in 2010, Lawrence picked up his camera full-time and began volunteering with the Bishop McDevitt wrestling program, photographing the team at tournaments and creating several highlight videos for the program. He has covered such luminaries as the Reverend Al Sharpton, Maya Anjelou, and former Harrisburg Mayor Lynda Thompson. He has covered endeavors up to and including events such as the Harrisburg Fashion Week, the 500 Man Reading program, the Reading for the Cheddar Reading Program, Youth Ten Times Better, the Natural Hair Expo and the City of Harrisburg’s Parks and Recreation Fundraising Gala.
